Importance Of Accredited Schools

Michael Feduc

Nowadays, my daughter is engrossed in planning out her post secondary education. While research the different option of programs and schools available, we came across a fact that some schools offer accredited programs while some do not. It was pretty amazing for me to know a school can be accredited for some of the programs it offers but not necessarily all of them.

I was eager to know the significance of attending an accredited school, and if this affected the future in terms of securing employment after completion of education. Great informational site pertaining to schooling at http://www.educationforhire.com. The human resource person of the company I am employed in told me that if two candidates have identical qualification and experience, preference is all given to the one who has graduated from an accredited school over the graduate from an unaccredited school.

This is because it is mandatory for an accredited to fulfill the conditions set by the accrediting agency or body. Thus education in the particular area is more focused. The accrediting body also verifies and ensures that the school is focused on excelling and providing every facility that a specific area requires. Thus an accredited school is definitely the best option.

The main problem was that my daughter was weighing the college her best friend had decided to attend, but the program she was opting for was not accredited. It is very common for students to seek a specific school for entirely illogical reasons. One of our neighbors daughters is attending the local university because she wanted to avail the convenience of being at home with parents. This at first sight seems logical and does save money, but it certainly has reduced her chances of finding employment because the school she attends is not accredited.

Another example of this kind of a case is another of my daughters friend. She is attending the same school as her brother. This too seems a good arrangement but again is short sighted. Her brother attends a program for the school has been accredited but his sisters choice or program is not accredited and hence will not be receiving any specialized inputs.

You should always investigate each of the program that a school offers. Do not take for granted that a school accredited for one program is accredited for all. Many of the famous and big institutions offer a range of areas and programs and have accreditation is many of them, but not necessarily in all of them. Each shool has its own independent departments and you should inquire about the accreditation status. This will ensure in you or your child receiving a degree from an accredited school.

It is not the case that accredited schools are limited to universities. Accredited programs are also offered by trade schools, technical colleges and community colleges.

The possible reasons for choosing a school or location can be to have fun, to be in the company of friends, with parents at home and others. But to ensure that one has the maximum chances of securing a job after the completion of education, attending an accredited school is the best option.
